SpheriSil
SpheriSil is a unique spherical macroporous silica originally developed as a rigid skeletal support for soft polymers. The high pore volume of 86-88%v/v coupled with the unusual sheet like structure provides a silica base with approximately 8 sq.m per gram. The highly porous nature provides unprecedented mass transport properties, lending SpheriSil to a plethora of applications including enzyme immobilisation, antibody immobilisation, virus immobilisation and even bacterial immobilisation. SpheriSil will also have chromatographic applications including affinity based separations. Oligonucleotide assembly is most commonly carried out on controlled pore glass. The loading of functionalised SpheriSil is typically around 0.25 mmol/g which is higher than standard controlled pore glass (CPG), however, SpheriSil provides a more accessible surface than CPG.
